Loch Lomond's Food & Drink
Wherever you travel in the world food and drink is a big part of a holiday experience. Over recent years food and drink producers in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs have developed some exciting new products and brands. From homemade ice cream to freshly roasted coffee, from sweet chilli gin to luxury pies there is something for everyone.
Loch Lomond's Best Food & Drink
Leading the way in Loch Lomond is the Fraser family in Balmaha, owners of the multi award winning bar and reactant The Oak Tree Inn. Recently they have introduced a number of firsts for the National Park, including Loch Lomond Luxury Ice Cream and Loch Lomond Coffee Co, an artisan coffee roasting facility. Both of these are served in their St Mocha Coffee Shop just a few steps away from where they have been created.
Whisky in Loch Lomond
The current Loch Lomond Distillery opened in Alexandria in 1964, its previous location in Tarbet, dates back to1814. In Balmaha Sandy Fraser of The Oak Tree has developed a limited edition Balmaha Whisky, with the story of the illegal stills on the nearby Loch Lomond islands.
Auchentoshan, Glengoyne and Deanston Distilleries are all located just outside of the park. Their products are served in many of Loch Lomond's bars, pubs and restaurants. They all run daily whisky tours that are very popular.
Gin & Beer in Loch Lomond
The Scottish Gin industry has enjoyed huge growth in recent years. Dale and Vicky McQueen have created a series of flavoured gins at their Trossachs Distillery operation, just outside Callander. McQueen Gin flavours include Mint, Sweet Chilli and Mocha.
The Loch Lomond Brewery, located in Alexandria has gone from strength to strength in the last few years, winning many awards. The labels of their bottles and cans now feature some stunning graphics of Loch Lomond landscapes.
The Sprit of Callander in Callander sells whisky and gin from all over Scotland. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about the many brands that they stock. Also in Callander the Trossachs Pie Company have been producing some amazing pies, that have won a stack of awards.
The Mhor brand stands for excellent food, served in their hotels Monochyle Mhor and nearby Mhor 84 in Balquhidder. They also have Mhor Bread in Callander. Erincroft Bakery at Brig o' Turk is a great example of some of the many smaller artisan food producers. Look out for local producers at events and farmers markets across Loch Lomond & The Trossachs.
The fine dining experience is very special at the Lodge on Loch Goil. One of their options for private dining for up to 6 is the hotels famous treehouse. The Lodge on Loch Lomond at Luss offers fine dining with panoramic views of the loch. There are many excellent options in the area for afternoon tea, such as the restaurant at Loch Katrine with outdoor seating for views of the loch and the steamship.
